The London International Antiquarian Book Fair was also an opportunity to make some new friends and we were completely knocked over by the work of Margaret Costa. Margaret is one of the few fore-edge painters working in this country.
Fore-edge painters clamp the book to fan out the edge of the pages and then paint on the resulting slope. Once the book is finished the completed painting is only revealed when the book is read and talented painters can create three images on a single book.
We would love someone to commission a fore-edge battle scene on our Waterloo Anthology and have prepared book blocks ready. Margaret can be contacted on: firstname.lastname@example.org – and you can see here work by clicking on the title of this page.
